The Emmett baseball team broke out its bats and running shoes last week to pick up the first Southern Idaho Conference win of the season. Nine hits and six stolen bases fueled an 8-1 win over Caldwell on Tuesday.
Jase Bade and Ryder Scheibe helped get things going in the right direction in a four-run third inning. Bade doubled in a run and then Scheibe doubled to score two more. Scheibe and Isaac Brennan each swiped a pair of bases as the Huskies were a nightmare for Caldwell pitching with runners on base.
Bryson Kellam went the distance on the mound, striking out nine and yielding only three Cougar hits.
Friday’s matchup with league leading Skyview got off on the wrong foot. The Hawks found a groove at the plate in the first inning to score eight and put the Huskies on their heels. Emmett was able to manufacture four runs in the third with only a single hit to cut the margin in half but couldn’t get any closer in the 14-4 loss.
Two hit batsmen opened the Huskie fourth, a wild pitch moved them into scoring position and Zach Rolland’s sacrifice fly got Emmett on the board. Two walks loaded the bases and Bade cleaned them with a three-run triple. The triple, however, was Emmett’s only hit in the game.
Emmett has road games at Vallivue and Columbia on Tuesday and Wednesday this week with a home encounter with Ridgevue on Friday.
