Emmett’s traditional strength in field events is being challenged this spring by some top performances on the track — including a record-setting boys 4 X 100 relay team. That shift to speed over strength was evident last Friday at the Middleton Invitational.
The relay team of Avery Clayton, Quinten Smith, Lucas Briscoe and Kenyon Carter won the sprint event at Middleton in a time of 43.47 — just shy of the school record 43.19 they set at the Boise Relays two weeks ago.
Smith added a win in the 100 meters — his 11.26 just shy of his personal best 11.23 set last year.
Carter added a win in the 110-meter hurdles with a personal best of 15:34. He did not participate in the 300-meter hurdles as he opted to run the 200 meter open and placed second with a PR 23.77. Carter, a junior in his first year of high school track competition, ranks number three in EHS history in the two hurdle events, trailing only All-State hurdlers Landon Helms and Chase Armstrong.
The boys 4 X 200 relay team also came out victorious at Middleton last week. Zach Endres, Lucas Alvarado, Izayah Palmer and Donovon Lara — all sophomores — won in a time of 1:34.66
Other top performances for the boys came from Cristian Sanchez with a 134’10” toss in the discus for fourth and a personal best pole vault from Lowell Bacon at 11’6 for fifth.
